What We Do

Teach and train cheerleading coaches. Building from the Ground Up has become the benchmark and the standard not only in the United Kingdom, but also in other countries around the World including Spain and Canada, due to its high levels of competence.

Since 2007, BGU have been the UK & Europe's leader in safety and
technical training for Cheerleading Coaches.

All courses are hands on and designed to help you the coach obtain the very best understanding of Cheerleading. Whether you are just starting out with a team or already run a large program, BGU is here to help you.

The simple answer is anyone wanting to teach cheerleading and dance! You might be a university student, a dance teacher that would like to expand the classes you already teach, an athlete now wanting to coach, a school teacher, or even a parent of a cheerleading athlete who wants to get involved in this sport. You might already be a coach and now start a level 4/5/6  team. The one thing to remember is BGU is here to help you what ever your experience and courses are based around progressions.
The courses are run all over the country in venues suitably equipped. For the latest locations and dates please check the Course Dates page.
The course is a hands on training, supplemented by a comprehensive coaching manual. You will be assessed by our qualified BGU Instructor through observation of your coaching skills and interaction with athletes over the course and weekend. At the end of each day you will also sit a written test (closed book) on the material taught that day. A combination of your test results and the instructors observations will determine the outcome. Sometimes the instructor may feel that you need further experience before being able to issue you with your BGU qualification. In this instance you will be asked to complete a number of supervised coaching hours with a qualified coach. Once signed off by this coach, you can submit videos for your reassessment. If our instructors are satisfied that you are coaching competently, you will then be issued with your certificate.
Following full participation within the BGU course, coaches are issued with a certificate of completion that is accepted by Hiscox Insurance Ltd and Perkins Slade Ltd for insurance coverage and proof of your coaching standard (Note:- age conditions apply to insurance).
Anyone 16 years of age and above can attend and will be issued a certificate of passing, on successful completion of the course. Younger coaches 14 years and above can also attend the course and take part in all aspects of the training, but will be supplied with a certificate of "attendance" until they reach sixteen years of age when a full certificate will then be issued. We would advise all coaches between the age of 14 to 16 years to contact us first, so we can help them with their booking:- email: forms.bgu@gmail.com Please chaeck out our 12-16 junior leaders course as this may be a good start for younger coaches.

The BGU qualification lasts for 3 years from the date of the course you attended. When your BGU qualification is due to expire you have a number of options:

• Complete an online renewal exam. Completion of this exam will give you another 3 year qualification. This is a good path to take if you can not get onto a full course. You have 3 months from your expiry date to take this option

• Attend another BGU level 1 & 2 course. We make sure that our BGU courses are giving you the most up to date information and coaching techniques so you will always benefit from attending the course again.

• Attend a BGU level 3 only or 4/5/6 course. If you feel that you are ready to progress and expand your teaching knowledge, you may chose to attend one of these courses rather than renewing your BGU level 1 & 2 again.

If your qualification is more than 3 month out of date we can still help by offering an interim qualification. Please contact forms.bgu@gmail.com for more information.

Please note: You do not have to wait until your BGU qualification runs out before moving your skills up to the next levels and course. You can move up to the next levels at any time, as long as you have successfully completed the previous level and feel comfortably working the elite skills. Please be aware that whilst you do not hold an indate qualification you will not be covered by any insurance company.

What Customers Say About BGU

  • "I attended your course in Essex this weekend and wanted to give some feedback. Myself and the other girls from my team who attended have all cheered for a long time and still learnt a lot of invaluable new skills. The course instructors, Conor and Lisa, were so professional and helpful, as were all of the support staff on hand throughout the two days. I left feeling confident to go and teach the younger members of our programme safely and correctly, and also felt really inspired to improve the way we teach and work with the children, and implement new techniques and really work on the girls' individual progression. Thank you for delivering the training in such an inspiring, clear and motivating way!"

    Molly McBurnie
  • "I just wanted to say thank you so much for a fantastic training weekend on the BGU Levels 1&2 Course. I was very impressed with the whole experience, which was professionally run by knowledgeable and experienced coaches. The whole experience was extremely informative; the staff quickly realised that I had no experience in the cheerleading world, and were especially helpful in going over things I didn't quite understand, explaining things further to me, of which I am extremely grateful! I am very excited to implement what I have learnt."

    Jessica Waters-Leavins
  • "I just wanted to say thank you for my coaching qualification. I coach my old University team - we wouldn't be anywhere if your BGU team hadn't given me the confidence to stand up in front of 44 athletes and coach them this past season. Thank you!"

    Alicia Greaves
  • "Thank you once again for a great weekend. I feel re-energised and raring to go! Yet I also know what I need to concentrate on and work on to improve myself as a coach. I really would like to compliment the demo girls who patiently and diligently give up their weekends to help the future coaches and the safe development of the sport. So, thank you once again."

    Cathy Graham
  • "Just wanted to say thank you for the weekend, I really enjoyed it and felt like i learnt a lot from you and the others. Also the stunt teams were brilliant, so well done to them, too."

    Alex Fox
  • "Building From the Ground Up not only made me a coach but a better cheerleader. The hands-on approach is without a doubt the best way to learn the challenging sport. The course is delivered with an amazing consistency, having attended the Level 1&2 course twice, as a coach myself and bringing my coaches with me. While saying that, the wonderful people who deliver the qualification keep the course up to date with the ever-evolving world of cheerleading. The customer service is excellent and Lisa especially does everything in her power to ensure complete satisfaction. Each instructor has, on both courses, gone above and beyond. Hayden and Conor took time out of their lunches and at the end of the day to go over further questions or demos that we needed. Not only do i trust BGU with my education, I trust BGU in the education of my athletes. All in all the best coaching qualification for the developing cheerleader!"
